Weather Calculator
There is a weather calculator on the Internet. It is called an Windchill Calculator.
You can figure out the "Wind Chill" temperature or "Heat Index".
"Wind Chill" means... The calculation of temperature that takes in the effects of wind and temperature on the human body. It describes the loss of body heat and how the temperature feels. This is NOT the actual air temperature. It is used during COLD weather.
"Heat Index" means... The combination of air temperature and humidity that gives a description of how the temperature feels. This is NOT the actual air temperature. It is used during HOT weather.
"Humidity" means how much water is in the air. Use Merriam-Webster's online dictionary for other words you don't know.
Directions for Part 5:
- Print these directions. Go to the [File Menu] and choose "Print" or press APPLE-P. Keep the paper and check off the parts you finish.
- First go to one of the Weather Sites in Part 2 and get the current temperature, humidity, and wind speed for Denver/Broomfield.
- Then come back to this page.

Heat Index Directions (use this calculator):
- For Heat Index, the temperature has to be 70° F. or more.
- Click in the temperature box and type in the temperature.
- Click in the humidity box and type in the wind speed.
- Click the {Calculate It Button}.
- Read thye Heat Index temperature. How much hotter does it feel?
- Click the {Reset Button} to try different numbers. Try 120 degrees and 100 percent humidity!
- Copy your work onto a piece of paper and turn it into the teacher.
