U.S.A. Activity for 5th Grade

Part 8

Send an electronic message (e-mail) to someone in your state.

While you were looking at your state's web site you might have found an e-mail address. They might look like these: webmaster@somesite.com or
steve.gandy@adams12.org

They always have the "@" symbol.

They can sometimes be found at the bottom of the main page of an Internet site. Look at the bottom of this page to see one for Mr. Gandy.

Sometimes they are blue and underlined. That means that IF your computer is set up the right way, you can send a message just by clicking. However, the Mountain View Elementary computers are NOT set up that way. So, don't click.

See the directions below for help in sending the message.

Directions for Part 8:

  1. Print these directions. Go to the [File Menu] and choose "Print" or press APPLE-P. Keep the paper and check off the parts you finish.
  2. Find an e-mail address for someone in your state.
  3. Write it down carefully. There are NO spaces in e-mail addresses. Pay attention to capital and small letters.
  4. Write an appropriate message by hand or on the computer. It does not have to be a long message. Maybe it is a question about the state or the state's Internet site. Maybe it is a compliment about the state or the state's Internet sit.
  5. Check your message for spelling and punctuation.
  6. See your teacher for help with actually sending the message.
