The Moon


The Moon is Earth's natural satellite. These links will help you understand why it looks different depending on when you see it. The different ways are called "phases". Check them out.


Directions for Part 8:

 

  1. Print these directions. Go to the [File Menu] and choose "Print" or press APPLE-P. Keep the paper and check off the parts you finish.
  2. Visit each site listed below.
  3. Be prepared to tell your teacher what you learned at each one.

Moon Facts - Start here. There are some great starting facts you need to know!

Moon Phases Explanation - This site explains what happens when we see the moon with different shapes.

Moon Phase Animation - This shows a cartoon of the Moon revolving around the Earth. You can stop and start it to see the different phases. It's fun!

Moon Phase on any Date - Scroll down on this page to enter any date (like your birthday) to see what phase the Moon was in at that time.

Moon Calendar - This one shows all the phases for any month. This is a great way to find out when the next full moon is going to happen.
