Solar System Activity for 4th Grade

Part 3

Download and Print Pictures of Your Planet

When you were browsing at the space Internet sites you probably found some neat pictures.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could keep them? You can.

You can download them. Download means to bring them from the Internet to your computer.

There are several ways to do this. The way you use will depend on what you want to do with the picture.

Click on Internet Explorer or Netscape for the correct directions.

Directions for Part 3 Using Internet Explorer:

I want to print the picture:

  1. Print these directions. Go to the [File Menu] and choose "Print" or press APPLE-P. Keep the paper and check off the parts you finish.
  2. You should only print 2 pictures.
  3. Find the Internet page that has the picture that you want.
  4. You can print the whole page with APPLE-P but that wastes a lot of expensive ink.
  5. If you just want the picture printed but not the rest of the page follow the rest of these instructions.
  6. Click and hold the mouse button down on the picture.
  7. A menu will appear next to your mouse.
  8. Choose "Open image in a new window".
  9. Press APPLE-P. Wait for it to print.
  10. Click the Close Box on the window.

I want to save the picture for use later in another program like ClarisWorks or HyperStudio:

  1. Print these directions. Go to the [File Menu] and choose "Print" or press APPLE-P. Keep the paper and check off the parts you finish.
  2. Find the Internet page that has the picture that you want.
  3. Click and hold the mouse button down on the picture.
  4. A menu will appear next to your mouse.
  5. Choose "Copy image".
  6. The picture is now in the computer's memory but you have to do something with it.

I want the computer to keep the picture until I need it again.

  1. Click and hold on the [Apple Menu].
  2. Drag down to "Scrapbook" and let go of the mouse button.
  3. Click and hold on the [Edit Menu].
  4. Drag down to "Paste" and let go of the mouse button.
  5. Now the picture is saved.
  6. Later, go back to the Scrapbook and "copy" it again.
  7. Then follow the rest of the directions below.

I want to put the picture into a document right now.

  1. Press APPLE-Q to quit Internet Explorer.
  2. Start ClarisWorks, HyperStudio or KidPix2.
  3. Click and hold on the [Edit Menu].
  4. Drag down to "Paste" and let go of the mouse button.
  5. Now the picture is in a document.
